The importance of a global mindset cannot be overstated in today’s interconnected world. As an educator, leader, and advocate for intercultural understanding, I have the privilege of helping others develop the tools they need to navigate complex cultural landscapes with respect and confidence.
Recently, I had the honor of being interviewed by Nicholas Rodriguez from Bushnell University, where I teach in the Master of Arts in Leadership (MAL) program. January 2024 marks my second year with Bushnell, and the experience has been both humbling and inspiring.
During our conversation, we explored topics close to my heart: the importance of developing a global mindset, intercultural and cross-cultural leadership, and understanding diverse perspectives that enhance leadership effectiveness. These are the kinds of conversations that challenge us to grow as leaders and inspire us to embrace diversity as a strength.
A full video of our discussion is available here, offering insights into my teaching philosophy, the principles that guide my leadership, and how I approach fostering diversity in global and leadership settings.
Leadership Through a Global Lens
Leadership today requires more than technical skills or theoretical knowledge. It demands the ability to connect with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds, to lead across generations, and to adapt to evolving global contexts. A leader with a global mindset embraces diversity as an asset, recognizes the value of different perspectives, and seeks solutions that unify rather than divide.
My teaching philosophy emphasizes these principles. I encourage students to approach leadership with curiosity, empathy, and a deep respect for others' lived experiences. Leadership, at its core, is about service—not only to those we lead but also to the communities we represent and the values we uphold.
Fostering Growth in Leadership
The MAL program at Bushnell is an exciting space for aspiring and experienced leaders to deepen their understanding of leadership in a practical and transformational way. The fully online format provides flexibility while maintaining the rigor and depth necessary for real-world application. Students leave not just with degrees but with perspectives and tools to create lasting, positive change in their fields.
I’m particularly proud to work with students committed to learning how to lead inclusively and effectively across cultural and generational divides. This commitment to understanding and respecting diversity is the foundation of effective leadership, whether you’re in education, business, or any other field.
Looking Ahead
As we move into 2024, I’m excited to continue this teaching and learning journey. I look forward to your comments on the interview and deepening these conversations about leadership, diversity, and globalization—not only with my students but with the broader community of leaders striving to make a difference.
To those who are already part of this journey—thank you. And to those considering exploring these ideas further, I invite you to join the conversation. Together, we can build a future where leadership is defined by empathy, respect, and a global vision.
